A bit of a shorter post, because I want to get straight to it. I will keep it very simple: the three exercises I still do are sit-ups, push-ups, and squats.
I think everyone should keep doing these 3 exercises for as long as they are able to. They can be done anywhere, and have numerous variations that make them harder or easier.
push-ups
Arguably my favorite exercise of all time (and mainly the reason my triceps are overdeveloped compared to the rest of the muscles on my arms….not that I’m complaining). The push-up is very simple, you go down, and you push up.
How can you make it easier? Simple, you start on the ground or do it on your knees. There is no shame in it, we all have different starting points!
How do you make it harder? You can do handstand push-ups, clapping push-ups, the list goes on!
What does it target? A lot of things. Since it’s a compound bodyweight exercise, it can target your core, chest, triceps, and deltoids. The list gets bigger when you introduce variations. If you would like to see all the different ones you can do, click here!
Sit-ups
Another classic, helps build your core muscles, BUT IT WILL NOT GIVE YOU ABS. That comes from your diet. For this exercise, make sure to start with your hands on your chest, forming an X, or behind your head. Those are the 2 that I usually do.
How can you make it easier? You just go up as high as you can! If you can’t sit up all the way, then try to do ab crunches (again these won’t give you abs).
How do you make it harder? Some variations for making this exercise more challenging are the V-up or leg raise.
Squats
If I’m being totally honest, I wrote this post just to tell you all about push-ups, but since I’m here I’ll explain how a squat works. Keep your feet shoulder width apart (or a little further if you find it necessary), keep you hands in front of you, heels on the ground, go down, and then push yourself back up. That’s it, really simple!
If you want to make it easier, then go down as far as you can without injuring yourself. You will progress and get lower down to the ground in time.
